Shared costs for roommates
Roommate friction rarely comes from difficult arithmetic. It comes from forgotten purchases, changing housemates and assumptions about what the rent includes. A short written rule and a visible monthly record remove most ambiguity.
Rent may be equal, based on room size or set in the lease. Internet is usually equal. Groceries may belong outside the shared pot. Decide each category once, name one payer for every bill, and keep proof of the total. The goal is not constant surveillance; it is a record everyone can check.
Three roommates share SEK 15,000 rent, SEK 450 internet and SEK 750 electricity. The total is SEK 16,200.
An equal split is SEK 5,400 each. If Noor paid the full amount, the other two roommates each transfer SEK 5,400 to Noor.
If one room has a separately agreed rent premium, put that difference into custom percentages instead of improvising a different amount every month.
List rent, utilities, internet and household supplies. Anything not listed remains personal until the group agrees otherwise.
